The great Frederick Law Olmstead's son, Frederick L. Olmstead Jr., helped lay out the desirable and exclusive suburb known as Roland Park.
Many distinguished architects contributed to the range of housing styles still found there, including Ellicott and Emmart, Charles A. Platt of New York and Palmer and Lamdin. It was Edward A. Lamdin who designed the uniquely Baltimorean Roland Avenue shopping center in 1917 which has a charming Tudor appearance. The tea room, Morgan & Millard, besides serving good food, was a community meeting place for almost eighty years.
At about the same time Lamdin designed the layout of Dundalk in Baltimore County, and its distinctive Shipping Place retail center for the employees of the Bethlehem Steel Co. working at Sparrows Point.

In the fall of 2005, the mall reopened under new management.
